Privacy Policy for KnowLine
Last updated: July 22, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how GoldLine Developers ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the KnowLine mobile application ("the App," "KnowLine"). By using KnowLine, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
1. Who We Are
KnowLine is developed and published by GoldLine Developers, an independent app developer.
Contact for privacy questions or requests: getgoldline@gmail.com
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Photos and images you capture with your camera or select from your gallery to use KnowLine's identification, scanning, and AI-analysis features. Video is never captured or collected.
- Text you type, including questions asked to the AI assistant feature ("Ask AI") and follow-up questions.
- Voice input: if you use the microphone icon to ask a question by speaking instead of typing, your speech is converted to text using your device's on-device speech recognition. Audio is processed locally on your device to produce this text and is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers or any third party.
- Local preferences you set, such as a display name or app language preference in Settings. These are stored only on your device and are never transmitted to us or any third party.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: device model, operating system version, and app version, used for crash diagnostics and compatibility.
- Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID): used to serve and measure rewarded video advertisements through Google AdMob. See Section 6 for details.
- Usage data: general app interaction data (e.g., which features are used, session length) collected to improve app performance and reliability.
- Diagnostic/crash data: technical logs generated if the app crashes or encounters an error, used solely to identify and fix bugs.
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect
KnowLine does not require account creation or login. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or physical address unless you voluntarily provide it (for example, by emailing us for support).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the App's core functionality: on-device text recognition (OCR), object detection, barcode/QR scanning, and language translation.
- Send images and/or text you submit through the "Ask AI" feature to our backend, which forwards the request to Google's Gemini API to generate a response.
- Maintain conversation context for follow-up questions within a single scan session.
- Convert your spoken voice input into text on-device, entirely locally, when you choose to use the microphone input option.
- Generate a shareable or downloadable branded image of an AI answer when you choose to share or save it, using your device's standard share and storage functionality.
- Display rewarded video, banner, and native advertisements and grant in-app credits when you choose to watch a rewarded ad.
- Diagnose and fix technical issues.
- Improve the App's features and performance over time.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use the content of your photos or questions for advertising targeting purposes.
4. On-Device vs. Cloud Processing (Important Distinction)
KnowLine processes information in two different ways, and it's important you understand which applies to which feature:
| Feature | Where it's processed | Sent off your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Text recognition (OCR) | On your device (Google ML Kit) | No |
| Object detection | On your device (Google ML Kit) | No |
| Barcode/QR scanning | On your device (Google ML Kit) | No |
| Translation (supported languages) | On your device (Google ML Kit) | No |
| Voice input (speech-to-text) | On your device (Android speech recognizer) | No |
| "Ask AI" responses | Cloud (our backend + Google Gemini API) | Yes — image and/or text sent |
| Rewarded, banner, and native ads | Cloud (Google AdMob) | Yes — advertising ID and ad interaction data |
Photos and text used only for on-device features (OCR, object detection, barcode scanning, translation) never leave your device and are not transmitted to us or any third party.
Photos and/or text you submit through the "Ask AI" feature are sent to our backend servers (hosted on Google Firebase/Google Cloud) and then to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. This is necessary for that feature to work.
4A. Device Permissions KnowLine Requests
KnowLine requests the following device permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose, and you can manage or revoke them at any time in your device's app settings (this may disable the related feature).
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Camera | To capture photos for scanning, identification, and AI analysis. |
| Microphone | To convert your spoken questions into text using on-device speech recognition, when you choose to use voice input. Audio is processed locally and is never recorded or transmitted. |
| Storage / Photos (read) | To let you select an existing photo from your gallery instead of taking a new one. |
| Storage / Photos (write) | To save a shareable branded image of an AI answer to your device's gallery, only when you choose to download one. |
| Internet / network access | Required to use the "Ask AI" feature (communicating with our backend and Gemini API) and to display advertisements. |
5. How We Share Information
We share information with the following categories of third parties, only as necessary to operate the App:
5.1 Google Cloud Platform / Firebase
Our backend infrastructure is hosted on Google Firebase and Google Cloud. Images and text submitted through "Ask AI" pass through our Cloud Functions before being sent to the Gemini API. Firebase's data handling is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Google Cloud's data processing terms.
5.2 Google Gemini API
Images and/or text you submit via "Ask AI" are processed by Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We do not store this content permanently on our servers beyond what is needed to process and return the response to you (see Section 7, Data Retention). Google's handling of API data is described in the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service.
5.3 Google AdMob
We use Google AdMob to display rewarded video advertisements. AdMob may collect your advertising identifier, device information, and general location (approximate, derived from IP address) to serve and measure ads, and to prevent fraud. AdMob's data practices are described in Google's Privacy & Terms and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device's ad settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization).
5.4 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities.
5.5 No Sale of Personal Data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
6. Advertising and the Advertising Identifier
KnowLine uses rewarded video ads (via Google AdMob) as part of its free-tier usage model. To serve and measure these ads, AdMob collects your device's advertising identifier and related technical data.
- Ads are only shown when you actively choose to watch one (e.g., by tapping "Watch Ad").
- We do not target ads based on the content of your photos, scans, or AI conversations.
- If KnowLine's audience is later determined to include children, we will update our ad configuration to disable personalized advertising and comply with Google Play's Families Policy requirements, including not transmitting the advertising identifier for child or unknown-age users.
7. Data Retention
- On-device data (photos, OCR text, scan history saved in the History feature) is stored locally on your device and remains there until you delete it yourself (via the app's History screen or "Clear all history" option in Settings), or until you uninstall the App.
- "Ask AI" request data (images/text sent to our backend and the Gemini API) is processed to generate a response and is not retained by us beyond what is operationally necessary to complete that request and for a limited period for abuse-prevention and debugging purposes, after which it is deleted.
- Advertising data collected by AdMob is retained according to Google's own data retention practices, as described in Google's Privacy Policy.
You can delete your on-device data at any time by clearing history in the App, clearing app data through your device settings, or uninstalling the App.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information.
8.1 If you are located in India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023)
As a Data Principal under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 ("DPDP Act"), you have the right to: - Obtain information about how your personal data is processed. - Request correction, completion, or erasure of your personal data. - Withdraw consent for processing at any time (though this may limit your ability to use certain features). - Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity. - File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.
To exercise these rights, contact us at getgoldline@gmail.com.
8.2 If you are located in the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland (GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8.3 If you are located in California or other US states with privacy laws (CCPA/CPRA and similar)
You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (note: we do not sell personal information as defined under these laws; certain advertising data shared with AdMob may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes, and you may opt out via your device's ad settings as described in Section 6).
8.4 All Users
Regardless of location, you can always: - Delete your locally stored scan history and app data at any time. - Decline to use the "Ask AI" feature if you do not wish to send data to our cloud backend. - Opt out of ad personalization via your device settings. - Contact us with any privacy questions or requests at getgoldline@gmail.com.
9. Children's Privacy
KnowLine is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction, which may be higher — for example, 18 under India's DPDP Act for the purposes of parental consent requirements, or as otherwise defined by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.
Parents or guardians who believe their child has provided personal information to us should contact us at getgoldline@gmail.com so we can take appropriate action.
10. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including: - Encrypting data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) between the App and our backend servers. - Storing API credentials securely using Firebase Secret Manager, never embedded in the App itself. - Restricting backend access to authorized systems only.
However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. International Data Transfers
Our backend infrastructure (Firebase/Google Cloud) and the Gemini API may process data in regions outside your country of residence, including the United States. Google maintains appropriate safeguards for international data transfers, as described in its own privacy and data processing documentation linked in Section 5.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or the App's features. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy when changes are made. Material changes will be reflected here; continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
13. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact:
